one week ago, today #tb 🌋 ⁣ ⁣ time is relative • fine, I’ll post something besides a palm tree or dead leaves today. Those dying flowers around my neck are floating somewhere in the Pacific.

Is it safe to say that it’s autumnal in Los Angeles this morning ? I’m really into fall foliage and so happy I can experience it right here in my neighborhood. #home #autumnleaves

It has been such a rich week of adventuring, connecting and scouting. Seeing where it feels right to plant the seeds for 2020 adventures with you. Where would you like to go locally or internationally? I am thinking nature, beauty, simple and tasteful aesthetics, good company, smiles, coffee, bodies of water, some yoga, more meditations and yummy local and sustainable noms. Where comes to mind? p.s save the date for The Big Island: March 03-09 #letsadventure

I’m pretty sure I walked on the moon. At least that’s what my imagination told me. We walked through a narnianic rainforest to the crater. ⁣ ⁣ Kīlauea Iki erupted in 1959 for 36 days and it took 36 years for the molten lava deep inside the lake to harden. The lake is solid, but it’s core is still hot. ⁣ ⁣ It rained the whole time we were there and the belly of the Earth beneath us was hot and that was visible via steam vents. It was an incredible sight for me. I had to stop a few times to take it all in. ⁣ ⁣ Pele, is the Hawaiian goddess of fire, lightning, wind, dance and volcanoes. Otherwise known as Pelehonuamea, “she who shapes the sacred land.” She is believed to cause this havoc of a natural phenomena. When lava flows, it is a sacred piece of the fire goddess, and bad luck will befall anyone who dares to remove it from Pele’s home. She destructs to create. But, really, her volcanic revenge is to really wake us up. An eruption is an awakening of some sorts. We too erupt and awaken. ⁣ ⁣ With so much joy present, towards the end of our four mile hike, there was a moment of deep sadness too. There was this strong wish we all did better with our environment, including first and foremost myself in this equation. It really just starts with small steps. Take someone else’s plastic bottle and recycle it. Eat more plant based. Walk more, drive less. Carpool. Eat local. Sign the petitions. Go out and protest. Donate to Greenpeace. Be understanding towards those who don’t. Say no to littering. ⁣ ⁣ It gets super tiring and frustrating to be so mad and angry all the time with our greedy government officials and not so mindful friends. But, I choose to begin where I am. I am not fully vegetarian or vegan, but in that direction. Haven’t bought cook meat myself in the past 5 years, but still eat it sometimes. Not fully carless, but walk and bike a bit. I collect plastic bottles and donate them to local homeless folks. I try my best without overwhelm. But, the intention is there and wish I could do more, but right now, just this.

When I travel, I love to stay as open and curious as I can. I prefer to not make checklists of places I need to see. When I am not exploring this rock, or taking photos and then sharing them on social media, I’m reading Sigrid Nuñez’s “The Friend.” All these activities have been bringing me so much joy. The most lasting happiness I get though is being inside nature. Waking up beachside. Seeing gushing water and trying to count how many seconds it takes from the top to bottom. ⁣ Can you count how many seconds it does take? ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ I often question why I need to share so much. Then, I become ok with the mere fact that I like to do it. Right now, it is like this. Is this the artist’s way? ⁣⁣To question it all? Often it gets so tiring to have to have an answer to everything. Then, I think of Rilke who suggested that we “be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to live with the questions themselves...do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them.”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I have written four poems in two days. Pretty sure I do not want to share any of them, yet. I write for the reason of processing what enters through my sense gates. There’s a lot happening. A lot that is moving. Both within and out. Nature heals, inspires and makes me not become too concerned, upset or moved by the fact that our country is headed towards illiteracy. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ If you are a writer or want a “moving story of love, friendship, grief, healing and the magical bond between a woman and her dog,” check this book out. ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ ⁣#waterfall #nature #hilo #sigridnunez #thefriend #natureheals #bookrecommendations

I’m colorblind, but I’m seeing all sorts of shades of yellow, pink and in between on this piece of rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Fun fact: the Hawaiian Islands were formed 4.5 million years ago. Also, just doing a ritual here to the big unknown, no big deal. Really #nofilter
